Charlotte, NC (June 1, 2015) --- Rookie William Byron continues to lead the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (KNPSE) standings following a 15th-place effort at Bowman Gray (N.C.) Stadium. Byron has led the overall standings since the third race of the season at Bristol Motor Speedway.
“Bowman Gray was a tough race for us, but I cannot wait until our next K&N East race in my Liberty University Chevy at Langley,” said Byron. “I feel confident about the rest of our season and I know my whole HScott Motorsports with Justin Marks race team will bounce back after this race.”
Byron entered the NASCAR Hall of Fame 150 with a ton of momentum, starting the season with four-straight top 10s. He continued to showcase his adaptability by leading the rookie practice on Saturday and following it up with a fourth-place qualifying effort in the No. 9 Liberty University Chevrolet.
Byron ran strong and inside the top five throughout the first half of the race with his HScott Motorsports with Justin Marks team. He looked poised to bring home another top-5 finish until getting caught up in an incident with another competitor on lap 99. Byron was able to continue on in the event even with damage to the No. 9 and finish in the 15th position.
Byron and his team are off to a strong start to season after race 5 of 14 on the K&N Pro Series East schedule. Byron has the best average start and finish of any full-time driver in the K&N East Series. His average start is 2.8 and his average finish is 5.2. In addition, he is the only driver to have multiple wins (2) this season; and 1 of only 3 drivers to have 4 top-10 finishes in the 5 K&N East races run.
Byron has a 13-point lead in the NKNPSE driver point standings heading into race No. 6 at Langley (Va.) Speedway on June 20. He also leads the rookie of the year standings.
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race broadcast will air on Thursday, June 4 at 7 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network. Byron will compete this weekend at South Boston Speedway on Saturday for JR Motorsports in the No. 9 Liberty University Chevrolet.
