Byron Wins at South Boston Speedway; Teammate Berry Makes it a JR Motorsports Sweep

June 7, 2015

South Boston, Va. (June 6, 2015) - William Byron earned two top-five finishes in the No. 9 Liberty University Chevrolet, including a win, in the Twin 75 races at South Boston (Va.) Speedway on Saturday night.  Byron and his JR Motorsports (JRM) teammate Josh Berry made it a JRM sweep at the Virginia short track.

“I am really proud of our whole team tonight,” said Byron. “It was a team effort to get both JRM cars to victory lane against all of the tough competition we face here at South Boston. I’m really excited to get my first win with JRM this year after we’ve had multiple top-three finishes. Also, it was great to get a win in front of a home crowd near Liberty University.”

Byron started from the eighth position in the first 75-lap race and worked his way up to fourth before the checkered flaw waved for teammate Berry.  The JR Motorsports crew made some adjustments to the car prior to the second Twin where field was inverted.

Byron took the green flag in the second position.  The Liberty University car was tight for the first 25 laps.  Byron worked on different lines around the track to compensate and found one with speed that worked with the No. 9 Chevrolet.   It didn’t take long for Byron to get around the third-place car and set his sights on the two frontrunners.  Not only did he catch and pass them to take over the lead on lap 65, he held onto the lead for the final 15 laps and took the checkered flag over 2 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Byron now has a victory in the three series in which he competes: NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (2 – Greenville Pickens Speedway, Iowa Speedway), Super Late Model  (1 - Hickory Motor Speedway) and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Division (1 - South Boston Speedway).  He returns to action this weekend on Saturday, June 13 with JR Motorsports for a double feature at Langley Speedway in Hampton, Va.
