NASCAR Cup Series driver William Byron will be making another trip to the Midwest and the ARCA Midwest Tour. This time he will get behind the wheel of the Wimmer Motorsports machine for the Midwest Tour event Friday, August 27 at Madison International Speedway.
“We’re definitely excited to have Byron in our car at Madison,” Wimmer Motorsports Owner and Crew Chief Chris Wimmer told Speed51. “Anytime you can have a driver with his experience and talent it’s a great opportunity to continue to build your program and helps take it to the next level.”
“I’m grateful for the opportunity with Wimmer Motorspots and excited to race again with the ARCA Midwest Tour,” Byron said. “I had a lot of fun racing a couple of weeks ago in Kaukauna [Wisconsin, at Wisconsin International Raceway]. With limited practice on race weekends, it is always helpful to get in some extra time behind a wheel. I’m looking forward to running next Friday at Madison [International Raceway].”
Byron made his Midwest Tour debut earlier this month when he competed in the series’ event at Wisconsin International Raceway. However, Friday will mark his first ever trip to Madison International Speedway and only his second Super Late Model start in the past few years.
I was impressed with his performance at Kaukauna a couple weeks ago,” said Wimmer. “In practice I think he made the most laps out of any driver, he really took the time to get the track figured out and to give his team qualify feedback and it showed in the race. I don’t think he’ll have any trouble figuring out Madison quickly and we are able able to come with a good baseline set-up for him.
Qualifying will take place at 5:00 p.m. CDT on Friday for the Howie Lettow Classic 100 at Madison International Speedway and racing begins at 7:30 p.m.. Stay tuned to the Wimmer Motorsports social feeds for race day information.
