NASCAR Cup Series Driver William Byron Returns to Hickory Motor Speedway

March 16, 2022 – William Byron is no stranger to Hickory Motor Speedway, but it has been a while – almost seven years. This weekend, the Hendrick Motorsports driver returns for the Saturday night Easter Bunny 150. On the heels of their two wins at New Smyrna Speedway in February, Byron and the Donnie Wilson-owned team have high expectations as they head to the historic .363-mile Newton, North Carolina short track.

“I’m really looking forward to racing again at Hickory (Motor Speedway)”, commented Byron. “I can still remember so clearly my first start here in 2014. I had so much fun that night and knew that racing was all I wanted to do. To be able to come back here is just awesome. I hope we put a good show on for the fans. This track has a ton of history.”

Byron made his first appearance at Hickory Motor Speedway on March 8, 2014 in a late model with JR Motorsports. He started sixth and finished second in a field of veteran drivers. In September of that year he started from the pole position and won his first late model race. That season he also captured a total of seven pole positions and 11 top-five finishes en route to a second-place finish in the track championship point standings and earned the North Carolina NASCAR Wheelen All-American (now Advance Auto Parts Weekly) Series Rookie of the Year award. He returned the following year with the CARS Tour to notch one win and two top-five finishes in only two starts.
