Q&A with William Byron on First K&N Race at New Smyrna Speedway

Charlotte, N.C. (February 11, 2015) --- William Byron will compete in his first NASCAR K&N Series Pro East Division race this weekend at New Smyrna Speedway on Sunday, Feb. 15.  Byron makes his debut in the No. 9 Liberty University Chevrolet for HScott Motorsports with Justin Marks.

How do you feel about competing in your first NASCAR K&N Race?

"I feel like I’m prepared for my first K&N race. I have done everything in my power to prepare effectively and now it's just a matter of getting in the No. 9 Liberty University car. I have confidence in myself and with the team I’m going to be working with this year. I have a great group of guys at HScott Motorsports with Justin Marks that are going to lead me in the right direction and make my transition seamless. The most important thing is to be myself and be confident. It's a big jump, but at the same time I raced at the end of last season and in the super late model race to prepare for this moment. It's just going to be a lot of fun."

How have you prepared for this race and the season?

"I’ve watched hours of tapes to learn about the cars and the tracks we will race at this season. I think it's important to watch on board cameras from guys like Chase Elliott in the Xfinity Series as well, because even though it's a different car, the same principles apply on short tracks.

"I took detailed notes from my first race at New Smyrna in the super late model race last month. I know what my weak points were in that race, so I know what I need to do to improve.  Running that race and being able to look at the notes before qualifying and the actual race on Sunday will be a big help."

What do you think are the keys to success this weekend?

"It's crucial we qualify well and advance to a position where we can race without getting held up and having to stay pinned down. Restarts are important in the K&N series and I feel like I have a good handle on those."

How has it been working with HScott Motorsports with Justin Marks?

"The HScott Motorsports with Justin Marks team is strong. We have five talented drivers that are motivated to succeed. I really enjoyed racing with all of them in the super late model race last month and I know it's going be a ton of fun this weekend. I'm excited to have the support of Liberty University again this season and look forward to representing them in the NASCAR K&N Series."
